Swimming pools are great innovations to a house that can not only improve the visual appeal of the property, but also improve the health of the owners at the same time. Swimming is a great way to exercise and stay fit in order to maintain a good cardiovascular condition. However, updated pouring of chemicals on the pool water can also be hazardous to the health of a person when exposed on a regular basis. Not to mention the sting it leaves on your skin and eyes as well as the smell of caustic odor.
Chlorine is perhaps the most preferred among all other pool chemical products used on the pool water to disinfect and get rid of any unwanted elements on the pool. However, it can cause damage to the immune system and the health of the bather if too much amount of this product is poured into the pool. This product also affects the respiratory system of the swimmer on large quantities as these can suffocate a person when it evaporates into the air and hovers around the surface of the pool. Not only is it dangerous to humans, it can also damage the pool facilities as this product is mildly corrosive in nature. The constant splashing of chlorinated water on your facilities or pool furniture will eventually destroy their beauty through corrosion.
Fortunately, there are ways to treat your swimming pool water without resorting to the use of this harsh chemical product in order to sanitize and keep the water healthy and comfortable for swimming. Below is a simple guide on how to treat swimming pools without using chlorine:
1. In preparation for the disinfecting of your pool, make sure that you clean the pool facilities, scrub the pool walls and floor as well as vacuum the dirt and the debris if there are any floating or at the bottom of the pool.
2. Run a pH test on the pool water and check if the water level needs any amendment at all. Balancing of the water can be visibly noted when the pool water becomes cloudy or is starting to turn like a swamp. When these signs are significantly showing on your pool water, the best way to treat this is by shocking the pool with a good pool shock product.
3. Pour adequate amount of bromine on the pool water. Make sure that you follow the instruction as to how much of this chemical is needed on the corresponding size of the pool and its water level. This chemical is much safer than chlorine as studies show minimal reports on affected medical conditions relating to bromine.
4. Shock the pool before using it to seal it off and make it ready for use the following day.
Finish off the task by cleaning any residue of the chemical used on the water as well as any mess created from your pool water treatment. Keep in mind that bromine stays intact in the pool water unlike chlorine which evaporates with the harmful elements that’s why it needs to be replaced from time to time.
